Why am I downloading the game but then I don't get it?

how is that possible

我也是一样

The game file should be in your downloads folder.

You'd have to make sure your computer isn't sending it somewhere else for whatever reason. Though most internet browsers simply send whatever you download online to your downloads folder, I think some might ask where you want the files to be saved first -- but I don't know which ones do that these days.

I love black cats, reminds me of my late Louis who past away in Xmas in 2023, he is always friendly and clingy to me, especially when it time for breakfast and dinner. Although he love petting but he would bite my hand so deep that I can feel his teeth sink into my bones. Really miss him especially seeing this game. Will play this and make me think of him now.

goodluck  Have fun!

I'm sorry, Louis sounds like he was a real sweetheart ♥ My cousin's cats could get overzealous while playing too when they were younger (they never seemed to know their strength!), but you just can't help but love them regardless.

I hope you enjoy the game!

It's fun and there are some moment I did get a few jump scare haha. But so far, I got like 20 endings. Wish this game also have a normal wholesome gameplay without the horror haha, although I did get a wholesome ending. I really miss my friend, and still to early to adopt another right now.

This is now one of my fav games ever. I love how after seeing the big picture, players are able to interpret the cat as someone abusive trying to step back into the main characters life over and over. I feel like its intentional. this game isn't just about a cat, and its far more realistic than I thought. I loved every second of it, thank you for taking the time to create this. not only is it entertaining, but it teaches life lessons to the players. well done

(+1)

Thank you so much for trying out the game! I'm glad that you appreciated the underlying themes too!

(1 edit)

This is one of the best games i've ever played omg

Thank you so much!

spent about four hours today going through this game and getting all the endings, and i can see why people say this hints at an abusive relationship. the way the creature begs you to stay when youre fully ready to abandon it and finally choose your own path, trying to convince you that it truly loves you and wants you to stay, and yet you persist that its lying. you dont bend to its manipulation anymore, its emotional and physical torment. you dont falter, and you dont have any regrets leaving it behind. the ending is a very nice conclusion to the game. i was almost tempted to continue it, to "play" with it again, but i decided not to, i decided the ending was well set as it was. i didnt want to go back. i wanted to leave them at the happy conclusion, the fact that your character is trying to move on, people do say this is hinting at an abusive relationship, and towards the end, i could definitely see why. it fails and fails to convince you to stay, and in the end finally gives up and tells you it truly hates you, and goes away, hopefully never to come back. and the recovery process as shown afterward was truly great. everything about this game is great. i started to tear up when we get home to see a kitten, a normal kitten, one we could spend our life with. i like to think we did have completely moved on and healed from our experience with the creature, and lived a happy life with our new kitten.

when i was starting up this game, i was planning to play a few different game today, thinking this wouldnt be very long. but it ended up taking my whole day, and i am honestly not complaining. this was honestly worth the hours put into it

Thank you so much! After watching a few people play, I realized that the game was a lot longer than I realized, haha!

I'm glad you were able to see the themes of the story and that they resonated with you. It's interesting that you say you didn't go back -- I had been tempted with not making it possible or even permanently blocking the happy ending if someone restarted the game. But I don't think it would've matched the themes I was going for, since people in abusive relationships might get away only to go back again. They deserve to be able to keep trying, even they don't succeed right away. So I'm happy you liked the ending!

Thank you again for trying out my game!

that honestly makes me curious as to how the ending of the game would change if that did happen, to block the happy ending after restarting the game, but i like the idea that you can keep doing it

(+1)

Personally, i havent played the full game (from what i've played its awesome!!) , but i have watched through all the endings, and it feels like it kind of represents a toxic relationship, it seems cute and nice on the outside, but slowly reveals its true intentions, and how like in real life you find yourself torn between your love and desire to trust it but it keeps hurting you, and how sometimes its hard to let go, the cat constantly tries to manipulate the player, and in the ending, where its a pile of goop, tries to manipulate one more time for the player to stay by saying it loves them, but when they say no the last time, it switches to hating them. This is very amazing work and how perfectly you managed to capture it in a cat-horror game!! Even if that wasnt really your intention its amazingly done and im shocked!! :D gameplay is also amazing, and i love the ending with the kitten i think it was adorable amazing job

(+1)

And also the fact they managed to capture the thought of wanting to go back to that person, blaming yourself, them being all you can think about, if you switch out the “it” and “cat” in those lines with “him/her” it would make sense  if you get what I mean, that feeling of wanting them back even though they hurt you, and then overtime just getting over it and realising holding onto that person was just causing you more hurt, and how much happier you are without them, and then finding someone better, being cautious and a bit afraid but then you realise that  not all of them are bad, I think the symbolism in this game is amazing. The kitten represents a fresh and good start, and I love that. The game creator outdid themselves, amazing job!!

Thank you!

Being able to move on from those kinds of relationships isn't easy, but I wanted to show that it is possible with time, and being kind and patient with yourself. It was important to me to have a little black kitten in the end to show that, like you said, not all relationships will turn out badly -- that when you're ready, a fresh new start is out there for you.

Thank you again for the kind comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

Thank you so much!

I was trying to portray it as an abusive/toxic relationship! The cat trying to flatter you, ensure you that you're all it needs, that you're perfect, basically lovebombing you, and saying it'll die without you -- it shows in the ending especially how manipulative the cat really is, so you got it right!

It's not the same for everyone, but going through all the torture was mostly to prepare people for having to get to the 'endgame' endings -- ending 36 is the first one and even after everything that happened, it's a tough first step to breaking free from the cat's hold.

I'm glad you've been enjoying the game and its story!

(1 edit)

i've seen forever nenna play this and I DO NOT WANA PLAY THIS GAME

Good for you.

Ha ha! I was happy to see her playing the game too!

The dog ending made me question if my rats arent against me ;-;

(+3)

Hey guys, after getting murdered 39 different times I think I've learned to not take this cat home...

But seriously! This game was an absolute delight to play. I found it yesterday and haven't been able to drop it since! The 39 endings were gruesome, and often unexpected! I loved being able to get the true ending after all that relentless torture, and that we were able to defeat IT. I was smiling so hard at the end my cheeks started hurting.

The minigames and jumpscares were awesome! You managed to make things so creepy and even though I don't often get jumpscared, I did get got a few times! The creativity and effort put into this is seen, and very much valued. You did so well! I love the lesson of this story as well—to take each day one at a time, even if there are time when the loneliness sets in, or days when its cloudy. What a wonderful message! Thank you for creating this lovely game. My favorite part was the minigame for the true ending, having to dodge IT through all the places we'd been before.

Once again, job well done! 100/100.

Thank you so much, I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed the game and its story (even with the horror death simulator and jumpscares)! The ending especially meant a lot to me, so I'm glad it resonated with you too!

I cant download it! I am on linux mint and im lost

can't you use the Wine?

oh that exists i tried getting roblox on it and my computer hatted me for it V-V but yeah i could is there any tutorials on getting this on linux? if not i can wait till my gaming laptop is fixed :)

Same here.

yeah im internally suffering this game looks so good but i know im gonna get some nightmares

Sorry! I don't have access to linux or mac, so I'm not able to test this out. Ren'py (the program I made the game with) had the option to upload for windows/mac/linux so I did it, but I can't check it myself at the moment.

I searched around and saw this forum link about running Ren'py on linux mint:

https://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=48575

Maybe it can help? I also saw this tutorial:

https://appuals.com/how-to-play-renpy-visual-novels-on-a-linux-machine/

I hope this helps! Sorry again!

I will try it! i am excited to see the many endings mostly me wanting to make that cat pissed

My sister ( Mistyhitjsu ) is going to play soon, And im also on linux :) ty!

Once I started playing I couldn't stop. I was hooked for the rest of the evening trying out all the different endings. I love the visual effects and how sassy and adorable the cat was in their own creepy way. The maze and ending action sequences were excellent. The ending was very well written. I replayed it often with family and friends.

Wonderful!

Also the dog ending, Nice. I am still a dog person

Ha ha! The cat will be so jealous!

yeah Jealous...

(+1)

hehe I loved how jealous the cat was during all the dog moments

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

<3 You're amazing! Thank you!

I have only gotten a few endings but they kind of hit home. Just a little. Just a tiny bit. This is a good game.

Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far!

Deleted 326 days ago

Thank you so much!

On one hand, I had a LOT of fun coming up with different endings...

On the other hand, I think a lot of people are going to need to experience all those bad endings in order to feel okay with proceeding with the 'endgame' endings.

yeah it freaked me out at first but the game is cute!!! I love the cat and the dogs

I don't recomend the game for people who get freaked out easily plus I have a confession to make I didn't play the game I couldn't so I watched gameplays

good job I like this game a  lot

Thank you!

I feel ya

hey i totally love this game so good but i got a problem how do i delete the progress i want to play it again

If you want to play again with a full reset, you'll have to delete ALL save/persistent data from TWO files -- one in the folder where you installed the game AND one in these platform-specific locations on your computer:

## Windows: %APPDATA\RenPy\<config.save_directory>

## Macintosh: $HOME/Library/RenPy/<config.save_directory>

## Linux: $HOME/.renpy/<config.save_directory>

what happens if i get the true ending and then want to "play" with it again after clicking the dots on the menu? i dont really want to lose the true ending but i am pretty curious

It doesn't completely restart the game -- it brings you back to before you get ending 36, the first 'endgame' ending. But you have all the other endings unlocked and access to Load menu. You can get to the true ending again from here.

It's really just to let people replay endings if they missed any hidden dialogue without having to play the whole game again!

thats good to know, thank you

I know this is an AMAZING game because I've played it before but it hasn't let me enter it on my phone, I don't know if this is something on my phone or not but I can't enter the game.

Sorry, it's not available on android/mobile -- just pc/windows, mac, linux!

Now THIS is how you make a meta horror game!

I'm so happy that I decided to play this. At first I was confused on why some game about a cat was in the yandere game tag but after spending hours playing this game I fully understand why.  You managed to create a genuinely scary yandere stalker that was so relentless and unavoidable in any choice we make. All in the form of an adorable and seemingly harmless cat.

I have so many things to praise about this game:

  • This game has an MC that I could actually see myself as and heavily relate to when it comes to dealing with social anxiety.
  • The 4th wall breaks genuinely scared me. Especially when I pressed the load button a few times and was suddenly greeted with a black wall of eyeballs and a new start game.
  • Every death encountered was so creative and well thought out!
  • The Cat was a perfect blend of awww so cute! to OH DEAR GOD WHAT KIND OF ELDRITCH ABOMINATION IS THAT!?
  • I loved that you didn't make the cat a sympathetic villain that we should feel sorry for. 38 bad endings with that little monster was enough to make me lose any sort of love for it.
  • The ending with us finally taking back control of our choices from the cat and living our lives was a perfect message for people like me who are slowly trying to get out there to live life while struggling with social anxiety.

You definitely have a gift for horror games! If you make anymore games in the future I'll be fully supportive of them!

(+2)

Thank you so much for the kind comment!

I was inspired by my cousin's cats (Love my furbaby nephews!) to make a cosmic horror game about a platonic yandere cat! What would you do if you gained the obsessive love of a powerful creature with little empathy and no regard for human morals? Sounded like a bad time -- and a fun story to write!

  • I wanted to write a character with social anxiety who wasn't completely miserable in their isolation -- functioning and responsible, but also a little lonely and kind of a pushover.
  • I'll admit to giggling to myself like a little gremlin when I was coming up with the 4th wall breaks, haha!
  • Since most of the endings are death endings, I knew I had to at least try to make them all interesting to see play out, so I'm glad you liked them!
  • Because cats are equal parts cute and unnerving, they make for great horror monsters. Some of the gamers I watched playing the game would say something similar to "This is just normal cat behavior!"
  • It was a hard choice to make since you'd instinctively want such a cute cat to change its ways and love you normally... but yeah, no. After all the mental torture, I felt the true ending would be much more satisfying and congruent with the story's themes I was going for!
  • I'm glad you liked the ending! I was worried it'd be a little cheesy, but I think the protagonist would be happy with a nice, simple day. And I didn't want them to be completely unrecognizable with a bunch of friends and a suddenly booming social life since social anxiety isn't so easy to get over -- and some people really are just happy in isolation with only a few friends. Baby steps are still steps forward!

Thank you for giving my game a try! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm not done with this yet but I absolutely love it it's an amazing game so far! No issues at all!! 100% Reccomend

Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the rest of the game!

Wow, just finished this. So beautiful and disturbing at the same time. I loved the final endings especially and the story really coming together perfectly at the end

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

I've watched other people play it so I wanted to try it, but I can't download it through Linux. I've also seen a few other comments about this issue, so any idea how to resolve it?

Sorry I missed your comment! This is what I told someone else with the same problem:

I don't have access to linux or mac, so I'm not able to test this out. Ren'py (the program I made the game with) had the option to upload for windows/mac/linux so I did it, but I can't check it myself at the moment.

That's totally fine! I don't have time to look at the tutorial right now, but I'm sure i'll figure it out.

Darn- my PC runs on Chrome OS so it's not compatible with the file ;-; lemme look at the other options.

This was an AMAZING game! It took me about a day and a half to complete, totally worth all the hardship and tough/diffcult moments! The sprites are adorable, the storyline was so captivating, I couldn't get enough, haha! I love this game and the ending really hit me in the heart, Im not sure if you were trying to have an emotional impact but it definetely made one on me and I just enjoyed my time playing, I hope you make more games in the future! I would love to play all of them. I'd pay money if I had to, lol, please keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! I'm glad the ending had an impact on you -- it's the best thing to hear as a writer!

Love the game but I have a question. in the future will their be an option to keep the demon cat instead of it keeping you

No, I don't have any plans to add anything else to the game! I'll just update fixes and grammar edits as needed.

this game was so scary and yet somehow so cute at the same time, and i did nearly cry at the ending i felt so bad (╥﹏╥)  completely recommend!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

(+4)

i love this game so much!!! also love how every single one of my choices leads to different consequences, so it was fun playing this game! while i covered the screen while playing this game(going to the dog park made me do it, i was scared of jumpscares), i enjoyed the story so much, especially the ending where the mc takes their babysteps into recovery. i also appreciate the ending guide so much bc i would have given up when there were only 7 endings left. And the art style is cute too!! I'd say my only issue with the game story is that it shows a black cat being evil, and i don't think that's good because they already face this kind of prejudice in real life and some of them gets killed from abuse because of it. There are some people who have difficulty in differentiating reality from fiction, so maybe an additional disclaimer at the start would help? Anyways, the game's great and fun to play!

(+1)

Thank you very much!

I was also worried that the game would cast a bad light on black cats. That's why I wanted to have the final ending be the protagonist taking in another black kitten and having it be a healthy and happy pet/owner relationship!

(1 edit) (+4)

Even when it was literally a pile of goop with one eye, I still felt bad for it when it finally died,  either I'm way too empathetic, or very susceptible to (previously) cute animals, and manipulation tactics. The little kitten at the end was way too cute, though!

Seriously amazing game, with a love of love and attention put into it. Loved how imaginative (and disturbing) the endings were and they will have me spooked walking around my house for a solid couple days!

I didn't feel bad but my hatred softened a bit. "If you weren't so evil, maybe there could have been another ending" kinda thought. But alas, it lost it's chance. I'm also weak to cute animals though, wanted to pat the forbidden cat do bad.

(+1)

It's a challenge for empathetic people to be stern and make boundaries and cut ties with people who hurt you, especially when they appeal to that empathy in order to get what they want from you. I'm glad I was able to portray that a little!

Thank you for trying out the game!

(+1)

No way laurenzside played this, this should get you so many more players!!!!!!!

(+2)

Just saw her play this lol

I only just saw it a few days ago! I was pretty shocked!

hey Just wanna ask if this is a virus cus when I opened it it said Windows protected your pc

this happens for like almost every game on itch io and its fine so d

It's not a virus, don't worry!

making the decision between "get hopes up and not deliver" or "have no evidence that i wanted to do anything" -- i've gotta say i'm interested in making a fangame or at least some fancontent of this game

reading through all the Word Of God (pixeliminal comments) and paying attention to everything you can see ingame, i think i could pull something off with enough lore-accuracy

my mind is stuck on a Decaying Winter X Do Not Take This Cat Home crossover somehow but it might be something else

pixeliminal, if you can see this, i'd like to share whatever i make here if i get it done (here specifically since this is where you seem to be most present)

I wouldn't mind you making fancontent for the game and sharing it here! So long as you don't use the OST music as is from the game, I'd be excited to see what you come up with!

made fanart because i think this game is a new hyperfixation / obsession https://www.deviantart.com/samxboo/art/take-the-cat-home-1016398642

It's the first time that I played a game/ visual novel that features  horror elements  . It's quite impressive and has appropriate level of difficulty. Apart from the plot, the most thrilling thing for me, as an English learner, is the rich and amazing utilization of vocabulary.

Thank you very much! I wanted a good balance of descriptive prose while keeping it from being too wordy, so I appreciate it!

(+2)

Absolutely brilliant and imaginative game! I know this is a horror game, but I honestly found the route where the cat comforts the player when the player is venting to it super sweet... until it does you-know-what lol

(+2)

Thank you very much! I wanted the cat's disturbing nature to be present, even when it's trying to be sweet in its own way, haha!

(+1)

This game? Oh god, absolutely fun and uncomfortable at the same time. I've always found games like this to be insane good, be it very unsettling. If you got a few hours to spare, give this game a go!

(+1)

Thank you! Those are the feelings I was going for, so I'm glad you had a fun and unsettling time!

Queria que desse para colocar o idioma para português br, no entanto o jogo continua incrível mesmo eu não entendendo algumas partes ( maioria 😓)

Wow I didnt expect this, I really feel this game is one of the most amusing games I played  so far, I love cats lol this scared the sh-t out of me I thought it would be a yandere/romance game, god I was wrong.

I personally think more people should play this game, its an eyes opening experince? (I wrote that wrong lol). SOMEHOW it gave me more awareness.

loved the ending with the stray cat :)

Thank you so much! I wrote this game inspired by my cousin's cats, so it's pretty much for cat lovers. So I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

(1 edit) (+1)

I'm so glad that I've stumbled upon this gem by accident.

This is one of the best indie horror games that I've played in a long time. I can't even believe it's free. It really feels like a ton of effort was put into it. But more impressive was the fact that it was really unpredictable most of the time. It took me a long time to learn all the patterns. I love the surreal outcome of some of the choices and even some dark humor here and there. I guess the game was inspired by 4th wall breaking games such as Doki Doki and the work of Junji Ito?

Either way, not all games manage to touch me deeply and keep my eyes glued to the screen till the very end, but this one did. I can't wait for future work from you. Also, good luck to me sleeping well tonight...

(+2)

Thank you for your kind words!

I did take inspiration from Doki Doki and other meta horror games for it's unnerving reactions to player choices. I also took inspiration from works like Junji Ito for the cosmic and existential horror so that it feels alien and surreal, but also strangely personal and emotional.

Thanks again! I'm glad you were to able to enjoy the game until the end!

Absolutely adored this game. The art style drew me in because I thought it was cute and simple yet effective, and decided to stay after each ending. The final endings and leading up to the true ending was quite sad though, and it did feel bittersweet when it was all over. Despite that the game was very fun! The cat in game reminded me lots of my own cat while playing... minus the horror aspects. Thank you for creating this game!

Thank you very much for playing all the way to the end! I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

(+1)

Perfect game! Loved how the game honestly looks, its really nice! Loved how put together an amazing story. Honestly felt sorta bad for the cat in the end,
but the cat was clearly trying to manipulate the player into staying with it.
Over all 10/10!

Thank you so much! The ending is meant to be bittersweet because the feelings are complicated but the outcome is ultimately for the best.

why is this tagged as yandere?

Spoilers:

I saw the cat as a yandere because its love for the protagonist was violent, overbearing, possessive and obsessive -- just in a platonic way.

That's what it does with all its victims until they're robbed of their lives and bodies; then the cat keeps their wills to strengthen itself (and also because they 'belong' to the cat) and looks for new victims.

I am in love with this game! 10/10 Would pet cat

This was fun to watch! I'm glad you're enjoying the game so far!

(1 edit)

will there be a dog version

There aren't any plans for it at the moment. This game was mostly inspired by my cousin's cats and what I thought would be terrifying for a cat owner!

thank you for answering

I really enjoyed this game, totally worth it. My friend and I was talking about the game, and we came up with a lot of teories. I want to ask something, ¿Does the protagonist have anything to do with the missing people at the beginning of the game?

Thank you, I'm glad you both enjoyed the game! The protagonist didn't have anything to do with the missing people.

...But the cat certainly did.
